Author Susan Shapiro Barash Visits BHPL for Discussion on her new book “Estranged”

On July 31st, the Beach Haven Public Library welcomed bestselling author Susan Shapiro Barash for an intimate and insightful conversation about her latest book, Estranged: How Strained Female Friendships Are Mended or Ended.

A captivated audience gathered to hear Barash explore the complexities of female friendships—relationships that often serve as lifelines, yet can also be sources of heartbreak. Drawing from the powerful themes in her book, she shared stories of connection, betrayal, and healing, offering a fresh lens through which women can reflect on their own friendships.

Barash, who has authored over a dozen nonfiction titles and taught gender studies for more than two decades, encouraged attendees to consider the emotional weight of maintaining or releasing long-term bonds. Her compassionate and candid insights resonated deeply with participants, many of whom stayed after the talk to ask questions and have their books signed.

We thank Susan Shapiro Barash for her inspiring visit and for sparking important conversations in our community.
